Passing On The Word

She decided one day that she was going to church when her family made plans for a picnic. Her mother had agreed to let her go and so she did. "I had been an obstinate little girl, but when I made that choice, I really did choose God," my Grandma told me one day. She remembered that moment so clearly and attributed her continued faith to it.
Passing on the Word and it's life-giving importance became stronger with each generation. I grew up catching my mother sitting in her favourite chair, early in the morning, reading her Bible. Her pink leather Bible was always full of papers and pictures, underlining and dates. It was well worn and so were her knees. The legacy that was left to me is something I'm grateful to have experienced. My oldest daughter wrote a post on her blog yesterday and the joy I felt as I read her words is inexpressible. She too, is finding her desperate need for God's words and often shares that she's asking Him to help her apply something she's read in her personal devotions. Here is an excerpt from her post...

An Ideal Christmas Present

Last night I came across a verse in Proverbs. Right now Proverbs is one of my top favorite B.O.B (books of the bible). I like it because it tells you that something will happen if you are not careful to do this, or try to do your best on that because that is going to crush you if you don't. Know what I mean? Love it.

Here's the verse...Proverbs eight eleven. A.m.a.z.i.n.g. (!)
Okay, here it is! (So excited to share this with you!)...Aah!

"...for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her."

I love it how Solomon personifies wisdom (and the whole book of Proverbs). Personally I love personification. I'd like to use it as many times as I can! Also, I told my mom that I want wisdom for Christmas! Doesn't it say that nothing you desire can compare with her? Yeah. I think God gave me this idea. He speaks to people in different ways, but with me, it's the ideas :)
Father, let us pass your Word on to our children, and in opportunities with others, with all diligence, so that Your Name be lifted up, as it should be.
May I encourage you to read the True Word more than any other book this advent season?

“Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name. For the LORD is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations.” - Psalm 100:4-5

I Want It

I want a heart change. I want to be wise. I want my eyes to be enlightened. I want sweet things in my life. I want great rewards. I want to be cleansed. I want to be innocent.
Psalm 19 tells me I can have it all! All of those things!
Read God's word and discover what's yours for the taking!
Praise Him!
My husband and I watched "Facing the Giants" last week and I am preparing for rain. If you don't know what this means, rent the movie and be changed by the testimony of a man who found God's word to be true.

Keeping Company With Jesus - The Comfort of His Word

She writhes in frustration, her body contorting, her face in anguish. She squeals out her four year-old noises of feeling misunderstood. We, the misunderstanding ones, gaze dumbfounded upon this little person so tormented. My mind quickly searches for the answer, some meaningful and wise way to deal with her pain. She cries and her words, (barely deciphered by us, the confused ones), seem to point to feeling unloved and unheard.

She runs upstairs and I let her because I am lacking a solution. It was "out of the blue" and I feel that we are, this time, guilty as charged. Moments later, I humbly seek my little lost lamb. I find her staring out the window, trembling arms clinging to our kitten. She's found some solitude and some comfort. Still sniffling and a tear glistening in the window light, she turns to me. I bend down and wrap my arms around the heart-broken girl and her soft, purring companion. This little animal, unaware of fault, simply offers her affection and soothes the hurt with her unconditional love. Her purring, a remedy for the one who cannot seem to make others pay attention.
Another morning, I groan as my first thoughts of wakefulness take me to places I don't want to dwell on. Sweet dreams allow escape for only a short time and then the reality of the pain of circumstances beyond my control surface. I shake the thoughts away, searching for answers in my own file of solutions. That's when memorizing His word takes its place where He promised, "If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." (John 8:31, 32). My thoughts go running to Him, the only One who can make it right, settle the misunderstandings. But He, knowing where the fault lies, offers comfort regardless and extends grace beyond what my heart can comprehend.
I rise, thankful for the Word that keeps me even-keeled and able to face the world without fear of tomorrow. What if I didn't hide His words in my heart so that they could surface right when I need them? I shudder to think. He's there, ready to be my company, my light. He's as close as the mention of His name and as close as breathing His soothing, healing words.
