Frogs and Toads And All Things Spring

Frogs and Toads... isn't that what little girls are made of? Or is it boys? Slimy, bumpy and squishy qualify as desirable playthings in our family. That means frogs and toads are right up there with silly putty and mud pies. Last week we visited the frog exhibit at the Royal Botanical Gardens with some good friends, after studying metamorphosis and amphibians.
Oliver's project
We topped the day off by strolling along one of our favourite woodsy trails to feed the birds. While we eagerly await the warblers from the south, we care for our winter birds who flit from one chubby little hand to another, pecking at the seeds in the palms of older ones who teach that the tickle of the tiny bird claws is a good thing.

God said, "As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease." Genesis 8:22. He has kept His promise again. Spring has returned and we are delighted!

A Taste Of Canada

I love Canada. I love that our country is free because many soldiers fought for that freedom. I love that it was founded on godly principles. I love that it is inclusive of other nationalities who attempt to move here. I love that our land is vast and beautiful. I love that our paper money smells like maple syrup :)  I love the traditions that flow from the landscape and animals and resources discovered here long ago. Tapping trees to make maple syrup is one such tradition. Each year we visit the sugar bush to enjoy  learning about the process and taste-testing the syrup, but this spring, my brother-in-law tapped the trees in his backyard and we experienced the double joy of getting up close and personal with the "farmer", as well as, playing with cousins.

Keeping Memories Alive

So they never forget...

Emily (8 years), after watching a woman walking by: "I can tell that lady is made in Japan."

Emily, whose inquisitive mind never fails to amaze me: "Do bees blink?"

Oliver (6 years), very seriously: "I have a present for God. How big is God's bottom? (He goes and gets a little chair out of his room.) Can you help me fix this for God? It's small, but when He becomes a baby, He can use this. Then He will be God again."
Memories are kept alive through verbal stories, photos, and the written word. I work at all three so my children will always know how very blessed by God their childhoods are.
