Mommas' Day

Waking up to some loud Petra with jammied--and underwear'd--humans bouncing on my bed--husband included, a tea party with some conversation about how the mocking birds are evasive today, a large circle of lawn chairs and a little dirt biking, homemade Rice Krispie squares (Mom V. said they were for me) and "tiptoeing through the tulips" with my camera--just my kind of Mothers' Day.
Meg decided to try her hand at a photo shoot of her Momma today and besides a Mothers' Day post, what does one do with a string of photos of oneself? :)
Way beyond blessed and worshiping the One from whom it all is given. God bless every woman on this day set apart--especially those single women who are "mommas" and give my babies the attention that only they know how to offer. I love you!

If You Fly Them, We Will Come

It's another one of those Sunday afternoon things we do sometimes, visiting the mini-aircraft field. It's a quiet spot and there's something about watching a human-sized airplane buzz through the air that hushes us.
making his own
where the inspiration to fly originally came from!

My girl, who has always been found perching upon a high and precarious place, begging me to tell her the secret of how to fly, swipes that paper plane through the sky and I wonder if she's completely given up on the idea. Personally, I find pleasure in gazing at large objects in the sky from a safe seat close to the ground. My family, on the other hand, may have other plans in their futures.

Music To My Ears

He'd watched his three sisters perform in their piano recital for a few years now but it was finally his turn. When Mrs. Anger called him up to the large instrument to be the first to play for the audience that afternoon, I wondered how he'd respond. His face left a lasting imprint on my mind as my brave, five year-old boy marched to the front with his music book under his arm, grinning big. He took his time getting settled at the piano--just for show--and his grandpa, who remembered his son's similar confidence, broke the silence. Grandpa sarcastically called out in the quiet room, "Take your time, Oliver." We had a good laugh. Finally, he was ready, but Mrs. Anger had to remind him not to sit on his knees--a trait he inherited from his mom and sisters.
I would love to say his playing took my breath away, but the plunking and pausing was music to my ears in that way only a mother could love. Not surprisingly, a few others paid some big compliments later ;)
Big sisters played beautifully and this past week of incessant practice paid off. The once-monotonous songs stood out like the national anthem at a hockey game--so well-known but touching in the moment.
"Sandman's Lullaby" and "The Swing"--my favourite, from my piano book when I was in grade one!
Proud Daddy
"Take Me Out To The Ballgame" and "Puff The Magic Dragon"
Faithful Grandparents
Blessings
"My Favourite Things" and "The Village Dance"
I pray these children will always recognize their talents as a gift from their Creator, given for a purpose--to worship and glorify Him and to lead others to His Son. Having a wonderful teacher who believes the same, is a rare blessing. We love you, Beth Anger!

Discovering Spring And Peace

Bickering resounded in my ears from wake-up time till 2pm. I silently prayed and asked the Lord where I was going wrong in the way I was interacting with my children. Was I giving them too much attention when they tattled? Was I ignoring the root of the problem? Was I not attending to them enough? Was it just their carnal natures and I was off the hook? The only answer I was receiving was a itch to run in the great outdoors and so as soon as the last of the laundry (from that load anyway) was packed into drawers, I ushered my offspring into the van and headed toward the trail.
And in that place where miracles occur in creation each minute, we left attitudes and seemingly justified anger in the vehicle and dashed for the marsh. The voices that were once whining and annoyed now sang with elation as turtles, snakes and butterflies were spotted at every turn.

At dinner time, as my children chattered like busy chipmunks, sharing all about their marshy trail adventure, their Daddy opened the Word. And just as our Heavenly Father often reminds us, our reading tonight was all about being slow to anger. It was then, I received the answer to my questioning prayer this morning: lead them and they will follow.

Lord, receive my confession and make me more like Your Son. And with mercy for another day, I get another chance to walk in grace before my children and demonstrate Jesus to them.
