Graduating Grade Eight

The three of us walked across the stage, as many others had done. Our new homeschool group knows how to celebrate fantastic milestones like, graduations. Terry and I turned and faced our girl, who seemed so grown up that night. Her curls cascaded down the side of her head and her smile sparkled. She had been looking forward to this day for nearly the entire year and finally, she was able to receive a diploma and be called a highschooler. I read a short speech about how she had matured in her independence and education, how she made us proud, how she was living out her favourite Scripture: Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity (I Timothy 4:12). Then my husband took a turn. He got a few chuckles from the large audience, since he doesn't ever speak without humour :)  He spoke of how she might wake up thrilled the next day that he was not going to ask her if her math was done yet. We hugged our girl, handed her a diploma and descended the stairs.

Congratulations, my first baby to graduate!
May you always be sensitive to the Lord's leading as you make choices for your future.
Love, Mommy
